The history of Abuelo's distillery, Varela Hermanos, S.A dates back to 1908, when Don Jos Varela Blanco, a young Spanish immigrant, established in the town of Pes the San Isidro Sugar Mill, the first sugar mill in the recently formed Republic of Panam.
It is made from sugar cane juice, as opposed to molasses which is used for most rums. Abuelo is one of the very few distilleries that grow their own sugar cane.
Ron Abuelo 7 Anos Reserva Superior is produced in Panama and is one of three rums produced in the Ron Abuelo line. As the name suggests, it has been aged for 7 years in oak bourbon barrels and is blended before being bottled.
